Do your employees sit too much – and end up stiff and uncomfortable as a result? Do they (or you) wish you had more energy? Are you looking for new and innovative lunch and learn ideas?
Yes? Then read on…
The Impact on Productivity & Energy
You probably know from first-hand experience the impact of being stiff and achy from sitting at a desk all day. It impacts our productivity, energy, mood, and attitude – and yet it’s completely preventable. The statistics are staggering…
- 75% of health care costs are lifestyle-related and preventable
- 57% of all adults have suffered from some level of chronic pain in the past year
- Annual cost of pain: $61.2 billion (Journal of the American Medical Association)
- Annual presenteeism cost: $100 billion (US only, National Pain Foundation)
If you put all of those numbers together, it tells the story you already know. Sitting all day is making your employees less productive than they could be – yet they have a job to do. What’s the answer? For most desk-bound office workers, some precise movements targeted to common areas of immobility is what’s needed.
Introducing: Keyboard Athletes Lunch and Learn
This lunch and learn is probably different from others that you’ve been to. While education is important to me, so are results. So that is what this workshop is about – getting people to feel better NOW.
During the hour we’re together I’ll talk just a bit about the sedentary lifestyle’s role in our aches, pains, and lagging energy levels, but then dive directly in to what really matters to the bottom line – getting results. Based directly upon feedback from the participants in the room, I’ll select exercises that will benefit the greatest number of people. And then we’ll do them right then and there.
Not only will we do the exercises in the room, but your employees will be able to see results instantly, AND they will walk away with handouts so they can continue to do their personal high-payoffs at their desk.
I’ve lived with chronic pain for over fifteen years. I was recently suffering from blinding headaches that made it tough to see the computer screen clearly. I turned to Jen’s guide and tried the Neck Infinities exercise. After the first three repetitions on each side, I could see the difference. My vision was clearer and my neck was looser. – Christine M, Portland, OR
Lunch and Learn Agenda
Based on cutting edge neuroscience and experience with office athletes around the globe, this one-hour lunch and learn has been created to get results. Theory, education, and “should’s” only get you so far – but we all know that results come from actually doing the work. I believe that education combined with targeted exercises is an unbeatable combination – so that is exactly what I have done. And because people have been asking, no, this isn’t a sales pitch or some other hype-y hour – it’s an educationally-focused, hands-on workshop to give your team tools they can use.
This high-powered lunch and learn consists of:

- Why sitting saps your energy and reduces productivity
- My the on-the-spot assessment process
- 6-10 high-payoff exercises specifically chosen for the employees in the room
- Alleviating computer eyes
- Using these exercises in the day-to-day
What exercise areas are included?
- Neck Discomfort / Pain
- Carpal Tunnel
- Back and Shoulder Tension
- Hip and Pelvis Stiffness
- Headaches
- Computer Eyes
- Dropping Energy Levels
I specifically have targeted these areas for two reasons. First, they truly are the highest payoffs for virtually all desk-bound employees, and secondly, I was committed to finding a solution that people could literally do at their desk. In just minutes.
I spend over 8 hours a day at my computer and had started using wrist guards to help me avoid carpal tunnel syndrome. Jen showed me a set of exercises targeting the wrists and arms. The tightness and pain were gone the next day. I’ve since returned those wrist guards. To this day, I remain pain-free and much more mobile. – Pierre B, Seattle, WA
You’ll Get Measurable Results
Wellness can be incredibly difficult to measure, but rating discomfort on a 1-10 scale is less difficult. I’ll take a before and after survey of the lunch and learn attendees: how often they deal with discomfort, the severity of their discomfort, any impacts on work performance, etc. With this lunch and learn you’ll get the aggregated before and after data so you can evaluate the benefits for yourself.
Lunch and Learn Workshop Cost
My rate is $400-700 depending upon the number of attendees. Due to the hands-on nature of this lunch and learn I need to cap the room at 30 participants, but do provide discounted pricing for multiple sessions.
Get on the Calendar
Give me a call at 206-457-3449 or send me an email to get this lunch and learn on the calendar at your organization.
When we talk or meet, we’ll work through the details around the survey, space requirements (basically just enough to seat the participants), etc. I also frequently offer one-on-ones with participants afterwards to discuss individual issues, so we can discuss the scheduling of those as well.
The BEC sends a resounding “Thank You” for the VERY informative and VERY practical lunch and learn session by Keyboard Athletes. You did a remarkable job of helping our staff understand how simple, easy, non-weight-bearing exercises can reduce/eliminate pain and increase energy. It’s the perfect elixir for our team of non-stop, high performing nonprofit professionals. I can’t remember when I learned so much in such a short time that will pay such big dividends in stress reduction and well-being.
Your time with us was all the more impactful as you are a living testament to the power of what you teach. We are inspired—and motivated! And we are truly grateful for your investment in the staff of the Business Education Compact. - Mary Beth Horton, Deputy Director, Business Education Compact, www.becpdx.org
