The Tortoise and the Hare

WriteOn! OnlineI’m in the home stretch of my 9-month Z-Health Master Trainer program – I have two months to really nail my gross anatomy and learn the teaching points for all of the drills, assessments, and concepts in R-Phase, I-Phase, S-Phase and T-Phase.

That is an awful lot of stuff, and the only way to make it happen is through careful planning. Which just so happens to be the topic of my monthly Jen’s Gem’s column: The 3 P’s.

How about you? What large project do you still have planned for 2009? It’s not too late!

Move It Monday – Mad Skillz

Healthy MondayEveryone is good at a lots of things.  It might be that you are a great cook, a master text messager, or can navigate Target like nobody’s business (and can get out under $100 — in which case, hats off to you). You have things you excel at!

Silly as those examples are, how do you think you got that good? Practice!

Everybody has to start some place, and every day you are a different person than you were yesterday. You’ve learned, grown, and through practice (or lack thereof) gotten better at some stuff and worse at other.

So, this week find one physical activity you wish you were better at, and practice for 5 minutes a day.

Say you wish you could do a push-up. So, start by getting in a plank position (and get that butt down!). Maybe that’s all you can do on day one. Now, start adding in bending the arms (and keep plank). Gradually keep going down further and further. It doesn’t even matter if you can do a perfect push-up this week – what matters is that you’ve made progress. With time it will come.

What’s my thing for this week? A somersault. The simplest of kids tricks, but I can’t anymore. Time to learn again!
