This is fascinating, particularly given all I learned over the weekend about the role of lifestyle on chronic disease. Given that 7 of the top 10 causes of death are widely accepted to be “lifestyle diseases”, the fact that the swine flu (H1N1) is killing the obese at a significantly higher rate isn’t all that surprising. The obesity leads to a wide variety of other other health issues, including low-level inflammation that makes you susceptible to other illnesses. Basically, you can think of obesity as an all-around immune system lowering condition, so get a nasty bug — and BAM!
