Camelback

My birthday was on Tuesday, and I spent it down in Phoenix. I had one thing I wanted to do for my birthday — and that was climb Camelback. I could have cared less what I had for dinner (although it was my favorite sushi roll) or what I did that evening — I just wanted to climb.

The reason it’s noteworthy is because a year ago this is NOT something I would have wanted to do. I would have climbed it because it was good for me and I should, but not because I wanted to. Instead, I would have asked for a nice dinner out, perhaps a day of shopping.  My climbing trip is also noteworthy because when I lived in Phoenix back in 1995, I used to climb it all the time with a bunch of friends and co-workers. We’d go before work, and watch the sunrise. I’d have fun because I was with my friends, but it was never anything that I initiated or looked forward to.

But, this week, this year, we had an amazing climb.  It was a beautiful day, and I can’t wait to do it again!
