Gender and Exercise

This post falls in to the category of “things that make you go hmmm…”

I have a funny feeling that the findings of this research study aren’t much of a surprise to anyone, but that doesn’t mean it should be overlooked. The short version, girls play and move less than boys when they are young (girls tend to socialize in small groups and play word games while boys are more raucous and active — no surprise to anyone that has been on an elementary playground). Then, when we move in to the senior population, men again are considerably more active than women — but now it’s believed to be more a function of traditional gender roles (the woman stays home, the man gets out).
