Essential Secrets of Elite Performance

I spent Halloween weekend in Minneapolis assisting at a Z-Health workshop called the Essential Secrets of Elite Performance. It was literally a best of the best of R, I, and S Phases — cramming 14 days of certification in to 3. It was AMAZING!!!

This was my first time assisting at a workshop, and it was amazing to see the dramatic changes in people after just one day. Almost everyone was moving considerably better, and I think everyone had significant changes in their overall range of motion. We had several testimonials on the second and third days about how people felt better than they had in 20 years.

Day 1: R-Phase. The day was comprised of about half lecture and concepts and half R-Phase mobility drills. We spent a lot of time talking about the SAID principle, intent, how anything can cause anything, why active care is critical, and the impact on overall strength and performance when just one joint is jammed.  We also worked through a good amount of the R-Phase mobility series and taught several self-assessments.

Day 2: I-Phase. Another mixed lecture and mobility day, this day’s lectures consisted of the role of the visual and vestibular systems upon movement, and we included more self-assessments. We incorporated some S-Phase concepts in to Day 2, spending a lot of time on vision training as relates to athletic performance and got to play a lot. A second day of continued movement helped participants make more dramatic gains.

Day 3: S-Phase. S-Phase is my favorite certification — it was the first time in my life where I actually felt like an athlete. This day had a lot less lecture and and considerably more movement. We went through the basic stances, some introductory plyometrics, and more vision training. It was really fun for me to talk to the attendees during the drill segments about how the concepts could be extended to different sports, success I and other trainers have had, and how to incorporate Z-Health in to their own practice.

All in all, it was an incredible weekend.
