I’m just finishing up day 2 of my nutrition and training plan. A lot of lessons learned in just two days, and things to take in to the next 5+ weeks.
I haven’t counted calories in almost 2 years, so it’s interesting to start doing that again. Actually planning out food, schedules, and calories is something I have a lot of reps at, but haven’t done in a while. I’m also learning that you can get a surprising amount of food in 1100-1200 cals if you are plan well. I’m so glad it’s summer so the produce is fantastic! I’m also glad that I started on the weekend so I could figure out a few things before I go in to the workweek. I went to the grocery store this afternoon, stocking up on lean protein, and some fruits and veggies.
Yesterday and today look quite similar from a food perspective. I started my day with a couple of eggs. Throughout the day was some yogurt with protein powder, a protein shake or two, and then some grilled chicken with veggies for dinner. As much as possible I want to eat whole foods, but for as often as I need to eat, and in as small of quantities that I need to eat, protein shakes will just have to be a part of it.
My training this far has been fun and simple. Just some high intensity jump rope to start my mornings, and then a long walk with the puppy in the evenings. Tuesday is the night when my butt gets kicked!
Note to self: Don’t make peanut butter on an underfeed day. Seriously. Just don’t!

Thanks for the updates! I know you will succeed! Drop me a note when you are here in MN for the RKC since I live here!
Has Travis got you out to kiteboard yet! hehehe.
Rock on

Mike,
Thanks for the encouragement!
I will definitely drop you a note RKC time. I’m looking forward to the trip — I lived in Mpls until 3 years ago, so can’t wait to revisit some of my favorite places.
Um, no, no kiteboarding! I’m horribly afraid of the water after a near-death experience rafting in Zimbabwe ten years ago. Katie is coming on Thursday, and has offered to use her ninja Z skills on me to both teach me to properly swim and overcome that fear. We’ll see what happens.
