As an RKC instructor and a newly-minted R-Phase instructor, my challenge is now figuring out how to marry those two together. I love both of these systems, because I think they both follow the basic principles of the human body. Kettlebells, themselves, are simply a tool, but it’s the principles of the RKC system and what I learn from that community that is important to me. I’m all about efficiency and effectiveness (I have far too many things I want to do so refuse to spend time on anything that is less than optimal).I had my first test at integrating these principles this week.
Long Spine: I was already teaching swings this way, but I’m having to modify my windmill and TGUs. (I was already teaching my swings in long spine.) I’m sure that other drills will come with time.
Never Train to Failure: I had been allowing my students to monitor themselves. After starting to understand how stress physiologically affects the body (and exercise is considered stress), I’m realizing that I need to do better as a coach and teacher to educate my clients on what to look for and how important this concept is.More on new concepts as I learn over these next weeks.
