Change of Season

Today is Labor Day. It’s the unofficial change of season — the end of summer. Students head back to school. People start “settling in” for fall and winter — it’s a changing of routine and oftentimes a time of reflection. With the weather changing, a lot of fitness routines change. Yes, I’m still talking about goals. There are 4 months left of this year. What are yours? You can do a lot in 4 months. Here are some examples to get you thinking…

  • Lose 20 pounds of fat. 5 pounds a month is not at all unattainable.
  • Eliminate your low back pain through a sound mobility program.
  • Pistol? Pullup? New deadlift PR? For the first two, try a GTG (grease the groove) program, for the latter, try Pavel’s Bear program for new strength PR’s.
  • Clean up your diet. You have plenty of time before the holidays to clean up your diet. To quote David Whitley, you can’t outsnatch a donut. All of the exercise in the world cannot make up, long term, for lousy eating habits.
  • Learn a new activity. Dance, yoga, tai chi, karate, kettlebells. Just get out there and move.
